Harvey Probber was one of America’s most lauded 20th Century designers. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1922 he sold his first sofa design at aged 16 and went on to become a modern design pioneer who was credited with designing the concept of modular furniture in the mid 1940’s. Equally at home in wood, metal and fabric he was also recognised for his range of cane furniture which set a new standard for beautifully crafted furniture that was considered both elegant and modern.
 
The chairs are rare to find in their original form without repair as the cane detailing would often get damaged. This chair however is in its original condition and has been re-finished to a high standard whilst still maintaining marks of its history and patina. The seat was re-upholstered in velvet over 20 years ago but is in excellent condition having hardly been used and set aside in storage ever since. The small back cushion is also included in the price.
 
The model 1066 with its angular frame and the soft contour of its hooped back represents Harvey Probber at his best and is equally at home in a lounge, bedroom or reception area.
