Rare Danish Mid Century teak drop leaf dining or console table by Poul M. Volther for Frem Røjle
 
Volther originally trained as a cabinet maker and later became director of the Danish national cooperative design and manufacturing company FDB. He forms part of the era of Danish designers who’s main focus was on functionalism and along with Børge Mogensen and Hans Wegner (both of whom were involved with FDB) popularised Danish Mid-century modern design throughout the 50’s and 60’s. Often remembered for his Corona chair he was nonetheless first and foremost a craftsmen in wood and created a number of designs for chairs, sofas and sideboards – but surprisingly few dining tables.
 
Although much of his work was manufactured by FDB he did work for other notable manufacturers including Munch Furniture and Frem Røjle; the latter being the manufacturer of this particular table. Offered in excellent vintage condition the table is perfect for anyone who requires an elegant Mid-century Scandinavian table but where space is at a premium. The hinged top, simply and easily, folds over to create a Demilune table which could also be used as a console table or a smaller dining table for two.
