A pair of classic 1940s design easy lounge chairs in beautiful soft fabric and dark wood attributed to Florence Knoll.

Whilst there are no purchase notes or makers labels (the chairs have in any event been reupholstered) it’s easy to see where the Florence Knoll attribution comes from. These chairs bear a striking resemblance to Knoll’s early Slipper lounge chairs that date from the early 1950s and with almost identical dimensions; on this basis one can see how these chairs might be a forerunner to that design as Knoll’s style evolved. The slipper chair later itself evolved from solid wood frames into metal frames and this in turn heralded the launch of Knoll’s very recognisable classic box form button back lounge chair, bench and sofa designs that are still sold today.
 
In any event they are striking chairs in their own right with the angular solid wood frames creating a comfortable and relaxed seating position which very much echoes the design style of the 40’s. They have been beautifully and sympathetically reupholstered in recent times in a soft brushed cotton style fabric and also feature the square button back upholstery that makes Knoll’s chairs so recognisable.  
 
The fabric is best described as being a warm very light grey/stone colour and has been professionally cleaned and Scotchguarded to protect the fabric for future use. The fabric is therefore in excellent condition with no holes, rips or stains and with no missing buttons. The solid wooden frames are in very good vintage condition with a few knocks and marks as you would expect commensurate with use and age.  
 
This is a unique pair of chairs that are both comfortable and stylish and whilst they have been attributed to Knoll the fact there are is no maker’s marks (which in any event is very rare for chairs of this age) means they have been priced with this in mind.
