Originally designed by Hans Olsen in 1952 for Frem Røjle this dining set has since become an icon of classic Danish Mid Century Modern design. At the forefront of the design is practicality as it was designed to create a usable circular dining table that took up a small space. As such the chairs and table were very cleverly designed to dovetail together so that the chairs disappeared within the apron of the table when not in use. As you can see from the photos this is achieved by the sculpting of the table base to accommodate the curvature of the chairs to fit within the recesses.

There were a number of variants of this model and the usual configuration incorporated the dining table with four of the 3 legged triangular shaped chairs, and most often in teak with black vinyl seats. Another option was for the four legged chairs with the black padded insert in the seat back, which offered a more comfortable seating position and the option of a central butterfly extension in the table. The extending table added the functionality of a larger dining top but also added the ability to seat 6.

In this particular table we therefore have the perfect combination of the extending table but with the 6 chairs; two are the tripod version which can stack away when not in use, and the other 4 are the four legged version which stow away under the table when the table is in the closed position. You will also see, by reference to the accompanying photographs, that in the extended oval configuration all 6 chairs will stow under the table.

The set is in very good vintage condition having been restored by the previous owners and benefits from one of the most beautiful teak tops you’ll see on this particular table design. In particular you’ll see that the central extension leaf is the same colour and condition as the main table when so often you’ll see that the main table sections are faded. It does have a few light marks here and there just as you would expect but as you can see the top is very reflective so it’s impossible to show small marks. The chairs also have an upgrade to leather as opposed to the more usual vinyl and the four main chairs also feature the padded seat back inserts. The table and chairs all bear the maker’s mark/stamp.

All in all a very well presented and sophisticated set that would be perfect for a smaller apartment or for a dining space where flexibility and adaptability are required.
