Early Mid Century vintage 1950s Italian dining set with 6 butterfly chairs.

This is a really lovely little dining set for anyone that has limited space in their dining room or kitchen area. The chairs have bentwood back and arm supports and thick tapered ebonised wooden legs and are called ‘Butterfly chairs’ as the upholstered backs are a similar shape to butterfly wings. The table has a small extension which can be used to add a little more space for dining if required and features a beautiful maple figured top. Given the age of the table it’s most likely the top is Formica but it is without doubt the best Formica top I’ve ever seen. It’s clearly worn very well over the years and actually in much better condition than a wooden or veneered top would have been given it’s over 70 years old.
 
The chairs are upholstered in a textured cotton weave material that is gold/biscuit coloured. However, the material has a nap like velour so it will look darker and lighter in places depending on how the material is touched and brushed as can be seen in the photos. The set of 6 comprises 4 chairs and 2 armchairs.
 
All in all both the table and chairs are in very good vintage condition The table has some small marks in the top as you would expect and both the table and chairs have small knocks and marks to the frames consistent with age and use. The thick upholstery on the chairs has no obvious stains, major marks, holes, rips or tears. Unfortunately the designer and maker are unknown but it’s clearly a quality dining set as evidenced by the craftsmanship and the use of the brass caps at the end of each tapered leg.
