This large and impressive modernist figurative art piece has a surrealist feel that is suggested by the figure and setting. By an unknown artist it is marked ‘HF 206 – 67' and is titled in pencil as ‘The Worker’. The figure seems resigned but relaxed casually draping his working tool over his shoulders whilst he stares into the middle distance. It could be viewed as nothing more than an observation of a working man, however, in this position it evokes a depiction of crucifixion which is further observed by how the oil on the canvas has been cut and marked by a palette knife.

It’s a powerful, brooding and thought provoking statement piece and would be a talking point in any setting.
