A classic and iconic British Mid century modernist dining set comprising a 6 seater circular dining table and 6 cream leather and chrome cantilever chairs dating from the late 1960’s.

Merrow Associates produced many outstanding British mid century pieces throughout the 1960’s and 70’s and stood out as producing a more modernist style of design during the period. Their suite of furniture designs encompassed dining and coffee tables as well as wall units, book shelves and serving trolleys.

This table is perhaps their most iconic and sought after table design featuring a revolving ‘Lazy Susan’ centrepiece set in beautifully figured and matched quarter panelled wood and supported by thick chrome legs. The table top, at 138cms, will comfortably seat 6 as shown in the pictures but note only 4 chairs will tuck under the table when not in use. The table is perfectly matched by the Richard Young cantilever chrome chairs upholstered in cream leather and together create an elegant and sophisticated dining set that would suit many styles of décor.

Both the table and chairs are presented in excellent vintage condition with only minor marks to the top, frame and chrome work commensurate with age and use. There is no rust or flaking of the chrome and the leather upholstery shows no major marks to speak of.

20th Century Design Soft Furnishings Policy

The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 (as amended in 1989 and 1993) state that all soft furnishings holding foam must conform to BS5852 standards. This means that any post-1988 furniture will need to bear a fire label for auction and 2nd hand sale purposes.

The following exceptions apply:
• Items constructed pre-1950 [Regulation 4(a)]
• Items being sold to someone who is in the business of reupholstering furniture [See Regulation 4[b] and Consumer Protection Act 1987, s.46(7)]
• Items being sold to someone who is in the business of dealing in
furniture [Regulation 14(1)]
• Items being sold that will not be used in a domestic setting in the UK e.g. for export, for use in a museum or theatre, as a work of art [Regulation 3(1a) and 4(c)]

Soft furnishings for sale on this website are therefore sold as collector’s items and are not intended for private use – and in buying any item from this website you understand this. Further you accept all risks and liabilities that may arise from your purchase. They may not be in compliance with the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 and should be re-upholstered to conform to BS 5852 prior to any use in a domestic dwelling. Your purchase will therefore only be accepted on the agreement that the furnishings will not be used in a domestic dwelling.
