A stunning and rare set of 8 Danish Mid Century Modern Model 30 dining chairs by Poul Hundevad in teak and black leather. 
 
Designed in 1958 the Model 30 is arguably in the running as one of the top 5 dining chairs ever made with beautiful sculptural backs and a floating seat. The whole design echo’s Hundevad’s ability to create organic flowing shapes that epitomizes the Danish Mid Century Modern ethos of practicality, craftsmanship and effortless form. The design also showcases Hundevad’s cabinet making background with beautifully detailed joints and the use of opposing wood grains – you’ll notice that each of the seat backs look like they have a two tone colour. This is created by reversing the grain at the central join so that from one side they look one colour and from the other a slightly different shade. It’s a subtle but effective design element that reveals the quality that is derived from Hundevad’s attention to detail. 
 
Presented as a rare set of 8, and in very good vintage condition each chair has slightly different but complimentary well figured teak wood grain details and the originally shaped seat design upholstered in black leather. The original seat was thinly padded so as not to interfere with the upward sweep of the seat sides. This is what helps to create the floating seat impression along with the cutaway supporting rails and back set front structure. They are sturdy and solid, but also deceptively light. Their stylish avant-garde design means that they would fit well with numerous dining table designs – either Midcentury or more modern, from teak, to glass or block colours.
 
They would also work well as an alternative choice to the more usual corporate chairs one sees in a boardroom.
 
Like many of the great Danish designers Poul Buch Hundevad trained as a carpenter and cabinet maker before moving into furniture design. He started his own furniture company Hundevad & Co. in his hometown of Vamdrup in the 1950’s to produce not only his deigns, but those of other notable designers of the time too. Not only famous for the Model 30 he was also lauded for the Guldhøj and Egyptian chair designs and amongst his other work he created sideboards, tables bookcases and tray carts. 
 
Born in 1917, he passed away in 2011 and left behind him an enviable body of work which marks him out as one of the quintessential Danish designers of his time.
