Danish Mid Century dining table and chairs set by Inger Klingenberg.
 
Danish designer Inger Klingenberg (1932-1997) in my opinion produced some of the most compelling furniture designs of the period and was a key designer in helping to establish the Danish Mid-century modern movement as such a force throughout the 1950’s and 60’s. Often overlooked compared to her peer group she produced cutting edge designs that exuded quality and innovation. Along with her own design company, established in 1958, she worked with two of the most prestigious furniture makers of the time, Fristho Franeker and France and Sons and also designed a range of fabrics and jewellery.
 
The IK chairs, as featured here and beautifully presented in cream leather with copper coloured studs, are her most famous and sought after design and continued in the Fristho collection until the mid 1970’s. The ‘floating’ seat is disconnected from the seat base and the seat back which gives the impression of separation whilst still representing the whole. They are both comfortable and stylish and the leather upholstery in virtually unmarked. But perhaps the star of the show for me is her iconic extending table produced by France and Sons in the late 1950’s. It’s beautifully understated with a simple minimalist design of block form legs and presented in dark stained teak with a rich coloured grain.
 
Both the table and chairs are presented in very good vintage condition with no major marks to speak of. The table has a single 60cm extending leaf that is stored inside the table when closed and extends from 142cms to 202cms. Width is 86.5cms and Height is 70cms.
