A classic mid century dining set comprising an original white marble Eero Saarinen round tulip dining table matched to 4 x white Harry Bertoia wire chairs with original seat pads.
 
This is a classic combination of complimentary designs that both have their root in designs pioneered by Knoll since the 1950s and were so popular they are still produced today. The great beauty in both Saarinen’s and Bertoia’s designs were that they used clean, simple lines that were ground breaking and innovative but have stood the test of item. You are therefore as likely to see this table and chairs in a Mid century inspired home just as you would a modern dining room.
 
The Knoll marble table dates from early 90s and has the original Knoll Studio chrome label with signature on the underside of the top support as shown. It was lovingly on display in an apartment that was rarely used which means it is in very good condition with hardly a mark on the top or base and no chips on the edge. The Bertoia wire chairs have been re-powder coated in the white at some point in their life - this is often the case as with the original powder/plastic coating Knoll added the flexibility of the chairs the be weatherproofed for outside use and in that scenario over the years they would age more. You can see from the label shown that the chairs date from 1971 and all have the original Cerise coloured vinyl seat, although only one retains the original label that often gets detached over the years.
 
Overall the two designs create an eye catching centrepiece with the Cerise seat pads adding contrast to the white base and top of the table. The chairs, are also much more comfortable to sit in with the seat pads which makes a surprising difference to the overall usability of Bertoia’s design.
