Unfortunately very little is known about the designer but the design of the chairs and the quality of the wood and structure speak for themselves. The immediate feeling of looking at the chairs evokes memories of the classic solid oak Church pews that can be seen in churches all over Europe and is a style of design that goes back over 200 years.

Here, however, we have a modern conceptualisation of the design which enforces and accentuates the angular design of the base supporting structure which allows the seat to cantilever and project forwards in a way that makes it look like the seat pads are floating above the base. They are simple but striking chairs and very interesting to photograph as they create so many different angles and forms that are pleasing to the eye. The solid oak seat frames are all in good condition with some marks and knocks here and there as you would expect, and a few watermarks to the bases  - the seat pads have no holes, rips or stains. The material of the seat pads is uncertain as I can’t be sure if the covering is leather or a very good vinyl/leatherette. The grain structure is light and quite uniform but there are light lines across some of the pads embedded into the material which is more what you see in leather as that’s part of the natural texture shown in leather hides. The colour is best described as slate grey in that it has a mid to dark grey colour with just the slightest hint of the dark green hue that is evident in natural slate.

They are an unusual set of chairs that, by virtue of the design, would fit both a more traditional or contemporary setting. Heavy and well made their angular form and floating seat gives the impression of space but still reflects solidity and structural integrity. They would naturally of course be a perfect match to a residential Church conversion echoing both the historical design of such a space whilst also offering a contemporary twist on the theme.
